SMS consent and opt-in documentation
Clara Health sends post-procedure recovery messages by SMS. Consent is collected directly in the text conversation, and patients only begin receiving recurring automated messages after they actively reply YES.
What messages patients receive
Clara Health sends care-related SMS directly to patients in coordination with their care team.
- Post-procedure recovery check-ins
- Care reminders and aftercare instructions
- Photo prompts when your care team requests them
- Alerts when your care team needs a response from you
Use case and consent flow
Opt-in happens inside the SMS thread after a provider adds a patient’s number to Clara Health.
Use case description
Clara Health is the sender of record. Healthcare providers add their patients’ phone numbers to Clara Health. The patient then receives an initial SMS asking for explicit consent to receive care updates. The patient must reply YES to opt in. Only after that confirmation do recurring updates begin.
Step 1
A healthcare provider registers the patient’s phone number in Clara Health, and Clara Health sends the invitation SMS to the patient.
Step 2
The first SMS clearly explains the program and instructs the patient to reply YES to provide consent.
Step 3
Clara Health records the timestamp, phone number, and affirmative reply before recurring automated SMS are sent. Patients who do not reply YES receive no additional automated care messages.
Example of the initial consent text
Reviewers should expect to see consent requested before a patient is enrolled in recurring messages. This is the style of wording used in the opt-in message:
